In the contemporary world, the expansion of political, social, and cultural crises has confronted human societies with the challenge of preserving social cohesion and the continuity of collective identity. Under such conditions, cultural resilience, understood as the capacity of culture to confront crises, preserve values, and transmit meaning across generations, acquires fundamental importance. Dramatic literature, particularly Ashura-themed works, due to their deep connection with historical memory and collective narratives, possesses a significant capacity to represent and strengthen this form of resilience. The play Al Hussein Shahidan by Abdelrahman Al Sharqawi, through its re-reading of the Ashura event, provides an appropriate framework for examining this issue. The present study adopts a descriptive–analytical approach and employs content analysis to examine the representation of cultural resilience within the narrative structure, language, actions, and characters of the play. The necessity of this research lies in the fact that revisiting meaning-making cultural patterns, especially under conditions of crisis and repression, can contribute to strengthening social cohesion and preventing cultural rupture. The findings indicate that Al Sharqawi, by activating historical memory, emphasizing the role of language and narrative, representing a shared value system, reinforcing collective cultural identity, highlighting a sense of collective responsibility, presenting cultural role models and reference figures, and portraying the flexibility of culture in confronting crises, transcends the Ashura event as a merely historical occurrence and transforms it into a dynamic and enduring model of cultural resilience.
