Neyyer Tabrizi is one of the poets who has composed the event of Ashura using
mystical elements. In his Divan of poems, he has included a section entitled
“Atashkadeh”. In this section, the event of Ashura is narrated in the form of a
Mathnavi and with a romantic and mystical perspective. The present study uses an
analytical-descriptive method to analyze the connection between mysticism and
Shiite poetry in Neyyer Tabrizi’s Atashkadeh, and its goal is to find the foundations
of the connection between ritual and mystical topics in Neyyer Tabrizi’s Divan.
In this Divan, there is a strong connection between mystical elements and Shiite
literature; a connection that the Mathnavi of Atashkadeh is at its highest level in
the narration of Ashura. The results of the research indicate that Neyyer Tabrizi
considers such positions as repentance, piety, asceticism, poverty, patience, trust
and contentment and mystical states such as meditation, proximity, fear, hope,
love, longing, intimacy, confidence, observation, certainty, love, amazement,
annihilation and survival as necessary in the spiritual journey, which ultimately
achieves the unity of being or mystical monotheism. Neyyer Tabrizi has brought
this connection to its peak in his poetry by explaining these positions and states in
the characteristics of Imam Hussein and his Household (a.s.).
