Praise and adoration are considered one of the most important subsets of literary
genres. This literary genre has occupied an important part of Persian literature.
Praise poetry, especially the praise and adoration of the Prophet of Islam (PBUH)
and the Ahlulbayt (PBUH), has a special history and position among Iranian poets.
Khaja Hossein ibn Ghiyath al-Din Muhammad Mashhadi, pen name Sana’i, is one
of the prominent ode poets of the tenth century AH, whose style is classified as an
intermediate style or a middle ground between Iraqi and Indian. Some researchers
consider him to be one of the pioneers of Indian style due to his special influence on
changing the style of his time.
This research, which was conducted using a descriptive-analytical method, seeks
to answer the questions of what is the position of religious praise poetry in the works
of Sana’i Mashhadi, who did he praise, and what are the general themes of religious
praise in his works?
The results of the research indicate that the most important themes of religious
praise in Sana’i poetry are the explanation and praise of great virtues, mentioning
the virtues and goodness of the Prophet (PBUH) and the infallible family (PBUH),
mentioning some of their miracles and virtues, and expressing love and devotion
to them. Using poetic elements, Sana’i Mashhadi has been able to well depict
his feelings and emotions towards the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and the Ahlulbayt
