Ahmad Azizi, contemporary poet, pays special attention to religious values. He has composed his religious poems with special attention to innovation and mindfulness towards significant incidents of Shia Islam. Therefore, he has employed many modern words or has invented new phrases in order to give his poems a sense of novelty to the point where one would be hard-pressed to find another such poet. This study investigates the employment of 22 literary devices, qualitatively and quantitatively, in 561 verses from 20 of his religious Mathnawis. The findings conclude that Ahmad Azizi is not looking to merely produce literary devices, rather, his actual purpose is to employ these devices so he can produce novel imageries of Shia incidents and figures and familiarize younger generations with the philosophy of Shia and the responsibilities of being Shia. In the end, the poet has employed many initiatives and innovations in getting his message across which are present in this study for the first time.
