With Shia being the official religion and expanding in Iran, the worldview of this religion showed a rare influence on beliefs, attitudes, and actions and offered spectacular redefinitions of many values. Martyrdom and the concepts arising from it, have been the center of attention of many poets throughout the history of Persian literature. In the mind-set of these poets, getting killed for values, whether this value is the defence of Iran’s religion and territorial integrity or for love and devotion, has a high position. However, Shiite beliefs arising from narrations, hadiths, pilgrimages, and supplications have also introduced systematic concepts to this field. In the meantime, Saib Tabrizi, who was born and lived in a Shia society, developed a Shia attitude in his works, and the concept of martyrdom is no exception to this rule. The position of martyrdom and martyrdom in Shiite sources and Saib Tabrizi’s poems have shared features that this article has taken a step toward analyzing and explaining these affinities and categorizing them. The result of the research shows that concepts arising from narrations, hadiths, and pilgrimages in Shiite sources had undeniable effects on depicting the martyr in the poems of Saib Tabrizi. Commonalities are shown not only in the criteria of meaning and concept but also in the vocabulary.
